Factory Aprilia Rip It Energy Racing’s Ben Carlson is now two-for-two in Unlimited action this year, taking a second consecutive dominating win. Carlson led all 12 laps from pole and pulled out an early double-digit advantage before cruising home to the flag, allowing factory KTM HMC runners Kurt Nicoll and Johnny Lewis to close in to a deceptive 1.651 and 1.903 seconds behind at the finish.
Prior to this season, Aprilia had zero Supermoto national victories to their name, but thanks to the signing of the reigning Unlimited champ, they already have two this season. Carlson leads the Unlimited points race with a perfect 50 points. Robert Loire and Josh Chisum are tied for second at 35. Carlson also competed in the 450 class where he finished 10th.
Ben Carlson: "Hats off to Aprilia, this team’s hard work is unbelievable. The track seemed to get a little bit slicker each lap, and luckily I was able to get a comfortable lead where I could keep the bike on the driest line.”
Team Owner Darryl Atkins suffered increasing electrical problems throughout the day. “I am really, really disappointed,” said the New Zealand Native. Atkins was still able to make the race and collect points towards the important team championship. “We don’t make all this effort to finish fourteenth I assure our fans. It’s so much work to make it to the track, and every race we have a line of fans outside the rig interested in the team and the bikes. I’ll keep pushing no matter what – and I want to thank our fans for coming by to say hello.”
