Biaggi is no stranger to Aprilia having won three 250GP world titles for them during the 1990’s. His decision to race the all new bike came after he was unable to secure the coveted Xerox Ducati ride to replace champion elect Troy Bayliss.
At time of writing, Biaggi was unable to comment on his new signing, but is expected to make an official announcement on Saturday in Rome when Aprilia will unveil their new road and race bike to the worlds press.
The all new Aprilia V4 Superbike has been undergoing extensive testing during 2008 with test riders Alex Hoffman and Alex Debon. Following Hoffman’s Supermoto crash last month, current Hannspree Altea Honda rider Roberto Rolfo has tested the Aprilia twice setting some impressive lap times at Valencia last week.
The Italian rider lapped the Spanish track in a reported 1m 34.2s which compares very favourably to Nori Haga’s 1m 35.131s 2008 fastest lap and underlines the future potential of the new bike.
